This listing is for a one-of-a-kind full-sized set of “River” divination beads. These beads are not everyday craft beads but handmade clay and glass beads, quartz crystals, betel nut, abalone, cowrie shells, keys, pins, brass stampings, carabao bone buttons (water buffalo), shark teeth, jade, and piloncitos (small beads of 18k gold similar to precolonial currency in parts of the Philippines and Southeast Asia).

There are many forms of folk divination. Nearly all of them require special, focused attention via a particular sense (like sight or sound) or a combination of senses. Bead divination requires a medium who uses sight for their magick. Mothers and grandmothers gifted with “sight” often used elements from their everyday lives to divine information from the other realms like keys, pins, jewelry, wooden children’s toys. They could also divine by observing stones at the bottom of a clear river or stream.
